The Garfield County Sheriff's Search and Rescue is composed of citizen volunteers who donate time and materials to participate in civil emergent response to critical searches in one of the largest counties in the nation. SAR volunteers are employees of the Sheriff's Department while responding to call. SAR volunteers are not law enforcement officers. They are trained citizens placed into emergent situations to save lives and recover those lost.
